PhD - Finance

The primary goal of the PhD program in Finance is to prepare students to become productive researchers and professors at institutions of higher learning, or as researchers in government and business. The Finance PhD program emphasizes the ability to conduct original research on important topics in the field of Finance. Because completing a doctoral degree is a difficult and lengthy process, we pay close attention to each student throughout their tenure. The program consists of only a handful of PhD students at any one time, allowing each student to work closely with the faculty and to receive the hands-on training needed to succeed.

Our entire program is set up to prepare our students for the job market. And there are a couple of different ways we do that our coursework starts out by getting the students the analytical tools that they need to answer important research questions. But then really in the third and the fourth year, the coursework is primarily done and it's just them spending their time applying everything that they've learned about theory and analytics to try and answer interesting questions about financial markets. Most of our students in finance end up in academic positions. So they end up at research universities, we've been very successful at Mississippi State in terms of placing our students. In fact, I do not know of any case where we've had a student that graduated in finance that we could not find a job at a well paying University.

So we are offered a competitive annual stipend now Also the tuition and mandatory fees are also covered. Besides, we also get to go to major conferences to present our research papers or to simply just network. I believe all the tools and techniques in my coursework is going to help me to become a finance professor at a research university. And I believe that MSU can definitely help me achieve this at this school.
